Columbus has an unusually extensive alley network, and the historic core is full of century-old detached garages reached from it. Narrow access, jambs that have moved for a hundred years, and original track that tears out rather than flexing. Dublin, Powell, New Albany, Hilliard and Grove City went up fast and uniformly between roughly 1995 and 2015. Whole streets carry identical doors on identical springs. When one goes, the street is in the same window.
The one test worth learning
Pull the manual release with the door closed, lift by hand to waist height and let go. A balanced door stays roughly put. If it drops or shoots up, the springs are wrong and the opener has been carrying weight it should not.
